An affordable and quick procedure to repair and improve imperfections in teeth

Dental bonding is a process where a strong plastic, known as composite resin, is bonded to a tooth usually for the purpose of aesthetics. The resin material is durable, long lasting and will match the colour of your teeth.

Dental bonding isn't just for chipped teeth

Dental bonding in Calgary is a safe and effective treatment for a number of dental conditions. You are an ideal candidate for dental bonding if you have:

  • A tooth that has been cracked or chipped

  • Short or oddly shaped teeth that you wish to lengthen, even out, or widen

  • Gaps between your teeth that you wish to close

  • Discoloured teeth that you wish to whiten

  • Receded gums that expose a part of your tooth's root

The procedure can be completed in a single visit

Dental bonding is a common procedure at Northmount Dental Care, and is generally quick and simple. We start by selecting a resin color that matches the colour of your tooth. The affected tooth's surface is then roughened using a gentle but thorough etching process, after which a light coating of conditioning agent is applied. Finally, the composite resin is placed on the tooth where it is moulded and flattened until it perfectly fits the tooth's shape. Ultraviolet light is used to harden the resin and finalize its adhesion.

Dental bonding can be done in a single visit, unless you are looking to treat several teeth in which case multiple sessions may be required.

Dental bonding is not an uncomfortable treatment

Dental bonding is an affordable and simple procedure compared to other treatments, such as veneers. The low cost and fast procedure are major advantages to patients who are on a budget or don't like sitting in the dentist's chair for too long (e.g. children with chipped teeth). Another benefit of dental bonding is that it involves little to no pain. Anesthesia (freezing) is unnecessary in most cases.

Results can last for many years with the right oral care

Quality dental bonding work can last for several years, provided that you practice proper oral care. The composite resin can be prone to discoloration so it is important to brush regularly and try to limit or avoid coffee, tea, caffeine and other substances that can discolour your teeth.

The resin in bonds can also chip so you should also refrain from chewing hard foods or objects (e.g. pens) with the affected teeth. In other words, it's important to care for your bonded teeth just as you would for your natural teeth.
